He is preceded in death by his long-time love Geneva Holloman, parents Mable Colbert Burks, and Nathaniel Brown. Donnie attended Wichita Public Schools and graduated from Wichita High School South in 1976.Donnie worked for Wichita Public Schools for 20 years in the custodial department. He also worked for the Salvation Army as a volunteer bell ringer for many years. His hobbies were fishing with family and gardening. Donnie's green thumb was incredible. No matter which apartment Donnie and Geneva lived in, there was always a garden to share with family and neighbors. He always had permission from the apartment complex to plant a large garden. And he could grow anything, as his apartment was always easy to find by the numerous plants on the deck. Donnie also loved barbecuing and being the family jokester. He was very creative, making tornadoes in a jar for sibling entertainment, glass plant terrarium's, and as the story goes, he even made a fish tank from a console television. But most of all, Donnie took great joy in helping raise Renee.Donnie was a huge KC Chiefs fan. He liked playing basketball and was known for his hook shot. He also loved quoting the bible, as well spending time with family. Donnie was a gentle person. One of his most notable sayings was "Just keep it simple".Donnie leaves many surviving siblings to cherish his memory: Brothers-Brent Franks, Tommy Colbert, John Michael Bruce and Jermaine Colbert. Sisters- Marsha Wiley (Bobby); Daphne Lynch (Kevin); Karen Colbert, Lynn Beadles (Keith); Krissy Reddins.
