May 10, 1956— March 7, 2026
Biddeford, ME
Donna Harriet Scholes Roberge was born on May 10, 1956 in Granby, Quebec, Canada and passed away peacefully at her home in Biddeford, Maine on March 7, 2026. She was surrounded by the loving care of her devoted husband, Raymond Roberge, and their two sons, Jason and Jeremie Roberge. Donna was the beloved daughter of the late Mollie and George Scholes. She is survived by her brother Ron Scholes and sister-in-law Heather Scholes, her brother-in-law Bob Lapointe, and many cherished nieces and nephews: Karon Lapointe-Millar and Scott Millar, Brandie Tower and Kevin Tower, Robbie Lapointe and Lorraine Donald, and Christopher Scholes and Laura Quaal. She was predeceased by her sister, Sandra Lapointe.
Donna grew up in Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec, graduating from Dorval High School in Montreal. She went on to study Computer Science at the Control Data University of the Montreal College of Information Technology, where she learned programming languages including FORTRAN and COBOL. She later worked as an accountant at Lachine General Hospital in Montreal. It was during family summers spent renting a cottage in Ocean Park, Maine that she met the love of her life, Raymond Roberge, at the White Hall in Old Orchard Beach. They married in 1982 and made their home in Maine, where Donna devoted herself to raising their sons while working as an Avon representative and teaching piano lessons. It was during this time that she formed a lasting friendship with Joan Girouard.
Throughout her life, music remained one of Donna’s greatest passions. She studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and sang in the all-girls choir The Humberettes at West Humber United Church. Her favorite artists spanned many eras, including The Doobie Brothers, ABBA, the Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, Chic, Sister Sledge, the Pet Shop Boys, Phil Collins, Gloria Gaynor, KC and the Sunshine Band, Lionel Richie, Diana Ross, Neil Young, and Frank Sinatra. She also found joy in simple pleasures—watching I Love Lucy, The Golden Girls, Friends, and Survivor, cheering for her beloved Montreal Canadiens, and spending time outdoors. An avid camper, Donna cherished summers at Moosehead Lake, her favorite place, as well as Rangeley Lake State Park, South Arm Campground, Sebago Lake, and Papoose Pond. She and Raymond enjoyed kayaking on Moosehead Lake, pausing to read, take photographs, or simply listen to the calls of the loons. She faithfully recorded their family camping adventures in detailed journals. In winter, she loved both downhill and cross-country skiing.
Donna had a deep affection for animals of all kinds, especially cats, of which she had many throughout her life. She shared a special bond with the family’s Siberian Husky, Starr, and held a particular fondness for monkeys, gorillas, deer, moose, owls, hummingbirds, dragonflies, rabbits, chipmunks, and loons. She was also a creative soul who enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, decoupage, watercolor painting, weaving, and digital scrapbooking. An enthusiastic reader, she loved the works of Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel, and Janet Evanovich, and took great pleasure in baking and cooking for her family, especially during the holidays. Her warmth, quiet strength, and love for her family will be deeply missed.
