Donald Weiler ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Herman-Taylor Funeral Home - Wisconsin Rapids on Mar. 17, 2026.Donald "Donny" James Weiler, age 79, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.He was born on January 26, 1947, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, to Thomas and Lucille (Remitz) Weiler.Don attended Auburndale High School and graduated in 1966. Shortly thereafter, he proudly served his country in the Wisconsin Army National Guard's 32nd Infantry Division, the renowned "Red Arrow Division" from 1966 to 1972.Don dedicated many years of his career to the Port Edwards Paper Mill, where he worked as a beater engineer. During his time at the mill, he also served as a Union Steward, always standing up for and supporting his fellow workers. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, Don took great pride in his work and remained a respected and valued employee until his retirement.In 1968, Don married Judee Mann, and together they had three sons. He cherished time spent with his boys, especially hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors. In 2004, he married Cheryl Lind, who remained his loving and devoted wife.Don had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout Wisconsin. He was also a fan of sports and classic western movies, particularly those starring John Wayne.Above all, Don was a devoted father and grandfather who treasured time with his family. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the outdoors, and the lasting memories he created with those who knew and loved him.Don was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lucille (Remitz) Weiler; his sister, Therese Ubrig; brothers-in-law Jim Jacunski and Edward Altman; sister-in-law Pamela (Husebye) Weiler; brother-in-law Hans Lind; and his niece, Casey Weiler.He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl, and his three children: Jon (Sabrina) Weiler of Rib Lake, Wisconsin; Cory (Patricia) Weiler of Madison, Wisconsin; and Kent Weiler of Albany, Wisconsin. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Alexis (Jonathon) Medford, Kristofer (Alicia) Weiler, Anna Weiler, Jack Weiler, Kate Weiler, Megg Weiler, Brody Weiler, and Brock Weiler, and three great-grandchildren, LynnMarie Medford, Bodie Medford, and Bradley Weiler.Don is also survived by his sisters, Mary Lou Jacunski and Lois Altman; his brothers, Bob Weiler and Al (Kim) Weiler; sisters-in-law Karen Lind and Bronwyn Lind; and brother-in-law Jeffrey Andrews, along with many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and will forever cherish their memories with him.In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, the family asks that donations be made in Don's name to organizations that support mentorship and educational programs for youth hunting, such as KAMO (Kids and Mentoring Outdoors) or Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors in Wisconsin.The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Riverview Aspirus Hospital and Wisconsin Rapids Health Center for their care and compassion.A private family gathering will be held at a later date.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
