Donald Thomas Cathey

Donald Thomas Cathey, age 77, of Knoxville, Tennessee, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 13, 2026.

A man of deep and abiding faith, Donald lived each day guided by his love for Jesus and the quiet values of kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to family. His faith formed the steady foundation of his character, shaping how he treated others and how he moved through the world. Known for his sharp intelligence and quick wit, he had a gift for offering both wisdom and laughter, becoming a trusted and respected presence in the lives of those around him.

He worked for many years as an automotive engineer before retiring to devote himself fully to the pursuits that brought him joy. Donald found great satisfaction in fishing, gardening, cooking, woodworking, and tinkering in his garage. He took pride in working with his hands, solving problems, and creating things he could share with the people he loved.

Above all, he cherished his family and took quiet pride in the generations that followed him. His love, guidance, and example will continue to live on through them. He is survived by his daughter, Angela (Tom) Hopkins; his grandchildren, Tyler Laird (Mallory Samler) and Logan Laird (Stephanie Hoover); and his great-grandchildren, Grayson Laird, Haisley Laird, Jaxson Samler, and Hudson Hoover.

Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorna Cathey; his parents, Thomas Cathey and Ola Mae (Kirks) Cathey; and his son, Bradley Cathey. He will be remembered for his intelligence, humor, steadfast faith, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends.
