Donald P. Johnston

Donald P. Johnston, 60, of Youngstown, passed away on March 5 at Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest. Born on September 7, 1965, in Struthers, he was the son of Don and Theresa Humbach Johnston.

Don graduated with a nursing degree and devoted his career to caring for others as a registered ICU nurse and in home health care across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and California. He approached his work with deep compassion, building meaningful connections with his patients that often extended far beyond his shifts. He would stay late into the evening to listen and offer support, and on occasion drove through the night to change wound dressings, finding profound purpose in ensuring their comfort.

A gentle soul with a generous heart, Don shared a special bond with dogs, who brought immense joy to his life. He cherished his beloved companions Reggie, Pugsly, Clifford, Lola, Lucy, Sophia, Stanley, Luey, and Jacky, whose presence enriched his days with unconditional love.

He is survived by his husband, Joe Grumbine, whom he married on March 14, 2014.
