Nanticoke, MD
Donald P. Huber, of Nanticoke, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by his loving family in his daughter’s home in Farmville, Virginia. Born on August 26, 1936, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Paul P. and Grace E. (Ruth) Huber. He spent his early years on his grandparents’ dairy farm, where he developed a lifelong love of ice cream, chocolate milk, hunting, and fishing alongside his grandfather at the Shiny Mountain Rod & Gun Club near Promise Land Lake in the Poconos.
After graduating from Muhlenberg College, Donald served in the United States Army in the U.S. and Europe during the Cold War. He went on to build a long career in insurance and engineering with Liberty Mutual, Nationwide Insurance, and Tate Engineering. Later in life he realized a cherished dream by returning to farm life on the family property known as Huber's Hinkle House in Nanticoke, where he and his children raised chickens, hogs, and truck crops together, creating stories that would be told for decades.
Donald was a gifted athlete who excelled in baseball, wrestling, ice hockey, and tennis. He competed in local tennis tournaments for many years, served as a linesman at the National Indoor Tennis Championship in the 1970s, and completed the Marine Corps Marathon several times. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed skiing, hunting, and fishing with lifelong friends. He also harbored a passion for fast cars, famously racing an Austin-Healey he purchased while stationed in Germany. Music remained a constant joy; he played trumpet in bands across the U.S. and Europe, sang competitively with a barbershop quartet in Salisbury, and later taught himself piano.
Donald is survived by his three children, Kirsten L. Huber, MD, PhD (Kevin Murphy) of Farmville, Virginia; Corlie H. Cornell, MA (Thomas) of Maitland, Florida; and Clinton P. Huber of Nanticoke, Maryland; his brother, Robert J. Huber (Stacy) of Osprey, Florida; and his grandchildren, Alexandra J. Cornell, MBA of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Joshua T. Cornell (Madison) of St. Petersburg, Florida. He maintained a lifelong, loving connection with his former wife, Patricia H. Fisher (Ronald).
