Preserve forever →Donald "Mac" MacGregor
Chalfont, PA
Donald MacGregor of Chalfont, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at home in the arms of his loving and devoted wife on March 9, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s and dementia. Affectionately known as Mac, he was a man of warmth, humor, and integrity whose greatest joys came from his roles as husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie, his children Scott and Bonnie Lynn, and eight grandchildren: Maris, Aidan, Ellery, and Bram, children of Scott; and Grey, Emma, Laney, and little Mac, children of Bonnie Lynn. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Bob Metzger and his wife Karen Topel, and Don Metzger.
Mac was open, forthright, and quick with a joke. His family and friends remember him as someone who left behind a lifetime’s worth of stories and laughter. A three-sport athlete who graduated from Williamson College of the Trades in 1955, he earned varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball and was voted Most Athletic in his senior class. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard, patrolling the shores of Cape May, New Jersey, and later aboard the USS Storis in Alaska, experiences he often described as among the best years of his life.
After returning to Pennsylvania, Mac worked in roofing and construction before joining the Upper Moreland Police Force, where he was known as a kind and respectful officer who connected well with young people. He played a key role in creating Mason Mill Park and was honored as Upper Moreland’s Young Man of the Year. He later earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Bucks County Community College and went on to teach while continuing his education. Together with Bonnie, he devoted years to helping disadvantaged children at Tabor Home and as group home house parents. He ultimately served more than 30 years as Director of the Bucks County Youth Center, shaping juvenile justice programs across Pennsylvania through his leadership in JDCAP. He retired in 2008 after a distinguished career dedicated to improving systems for youth.
Mac and Bonnie raised their children in the home they built on Mill Creek Road, where he coached his daughter’s teams, played chase and rough-housed with his son and daughter, and created countless memories of fishing, sports, and outdoor adventures. For thirty years the family spent cherished summers in South China, Maine, where Captain Mac delighted in giving boat rides, teaching water skiing, and sharing star-filled nights on the lake. In 2004, he and Bonnie realized a long-held dream by purchasing a home on Piper Pond in Abbott.
