Donald Taylor ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Higgins Home for Funerals, Inc. on Mar. 16, 2026.Donald Lee Taylor, Sr., affectionately known by many as a man full of humor, honor, and love for his family, entered eternal rest at the age of 81 in Greenville, North Carolina.Donald was born on December 20, 1944, to the late Sarah Frances Taylor Edwards and step-father Leon Edwards, Sr. He was raised in Middlesex County, Virginia by his grandparents, Louis James Taylor and Ella Taylor. He attended St. Clair Walker High School.After graduation, Donald proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. Following his military service, he relocated from Virginia to Plainfield, New Jersey, where he built a life centered on family, faith, and community. Donald later pursued an apprenticeship as a machinist with Man Roland, Inc. in Middlesex, New Jersey, where he developed a strong work ethic and skill in his trade.On August 18, 1973, Donald married the love of his life, Laheart Taylor. Their union was marked by deep love and devotion, sharing 57 years together and 55 years of marriage. Donald was a dedicated husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather who cherished time with his family above all else.Donald worked as a machinist for Man Roland, Inc., and later he worked for Thul's in Plainfield, New Jersey, where he faithfully served until his retirement. He was also a proud member of the Freemasons.In his younger years, Donald worshiped at Calvary Baptist Church in Plainfield, New Jersey. Later in life, he became a member of Ruth Fellowship Ministries, where he continued his faith journey while residing in New Jersey.Those who knew Donald will remember his easygoing spirit, quick wit, and ability to bring laughter wherever he went. He enjoyed watching television game shows and soap operas, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Known as the life of the party, Donald loved to tell jokes and keep those around him smiling. One of his favorite sayings was, "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."Donald leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Laheart Taylor; his children, Donald Taylor, Jr., Jennifer Taylor; and his cherished grandchildren, Saadiq Ali Taylor and Jerzi Madison Hughes. He is also survived by his brother, Leon Edwards, Jr., his nieces, Veleda Taylor, Octavia Taylor, and Joy Taylor.He leaves behind a loving extended family including his in-laws Sarah Wilkins (Floyd), Lillie Bailey, Jeffrey Bailey, Michael Bailey (Kaamilya), Bryan Bailey, Allen Bailey (Najiyyah), and Lynn Johnson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends affectionately known as his "homeboys."Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Edwards, Sr. and Sarah Frances Taylor Edwards; and his beloved aunts and uncles Andrew Taylor, James Taylor, Harvey Taylor, Alberta Jones, and Maude Aaron.Donald's legacy is one of laughter, loyalty, and love for family.
