Donald L. Redding Sr., affectionately known as “Redd,” passed away on February 23, 2026, in Covington, Tennessee, while under hospice care. He was 95 years old. Born on November 18, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, to Horace Redding and Alma Adams, he graduated from Pershing High School and went on to enjoy a long and distinguished career at the Chrysler Corporation, where he worked for 40 years. Known for his strong work ethic and dependability, Donald earned the respect of those around him through his quiet commitment and reliability.

He possessed a beautiful baritone voice that brought joy to family and friends throughout his life. Donald was first married to Maryion Woods Redding, with whom he shared 20 years and five children. He later married Dorothy Moore, who brought three children into their blended family. He was preceded in death by his first wife Maryion, his parents Horace and Alma, his son Donald Redding Jr., and his brothers Charles Curley and Harold Redding.

Donald is survived by his wife Dorothy Moore, seven children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many extended family members and friends. He also leaves behind his brothers Sidney Curley and Alan Curley. He will be interred in Detroit, Michigan, returning to the city that shaped him and where he will rest among family. Those who knew him will cherish the legacy of love, hard work, and song he leaves behind.
