Donald L. Mitten

Donald L. Mitten, 91, of Silvis, Illinois, passed away on March 11, 2026, at New Perspective Senior Living.

Born on March 20, 1934, in Wabash, Indiana, Donald was the son of Lloyd and Anna (Fender) Mitten. He married Mary Joan Linton on September 19, 1954, in Shelbyville, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 4, 2024, in Galva, Illinois. A U.S. Army veteran, Donald earned a degree from the University of Illinois in 1970 and a master’s degree in fine arts from Western Illinois University in 1973. He was a dedicated artist who found deep joy in pottery, wood carving, and painting throughout his life.

Donald is survived by his children, Doug Mitten, Evanna (Dan) Zaiss, Tammy Mitten, and Eric (Kristin) Mitten; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and his siblings, Bruce (Karen) Mitten, Mary (Tim) Mercer, and Peter Mitten. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, and his siblings Eloise and Julian.
