Donald K. Marlowe
June 3, 1927— March 9, 2026
Malone, NY
Donald K. Marlowe, 98, a dedicated 22-year veteran of the United States Army, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at the Alice Center in Malone, surrounded by his family. He served his country with distinction during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1971 after an honorable career that took him across multiple continents. His postings included Japan, Germany, Korea, Vietnam, and Rome, Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star and many other decorations and citations. A life member of the American Legion and Amvets, Donald carried the values of duty and loyalty throughout his long life.
Born on June 3, 1927, at home in Teboville, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Lydia Marlowe. On December 14, 1957, he married the love of his life, Yasuko Marlowe (Masubuchi), in Tokyo, Japan. Their marriage endured for more than four decades filled with shared adventures and quiet devotion. Together they built a close-knit family, embracing Ray and Jean Otis of Teboville and their four daughters—Sue Otis-Durham of Albany, Pamela Otis-Fleury of Lyon Mountain, Ginger Otis-Perry of Teboville, and Gwynne Otis-Reid of Teboville—as their own. Donald took great pride in these family bonds, offering steady guidance, love, and unwavering presence to those he cherished.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Yasuko Marlowe, on October 9, 2002, his parents, six siblings—Francis, Lawrence, Marion, Grace, Joseph (Jo-Jo), and Dorothy—his step-father Sylvenus Bachand, and children Joseph and Elsie. He is survived by his adopted family, Ray and Jean Otis and their four daughters, along with many extended relatives and friends.
Donald found deep joy in spending time with family and friends, riding ATVs and tractors along the trails he carved over decades on his property. He loved the outdoors and the peace of being in the woods.
