Gurney, Jr., 69 died Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at The Village at Cedar Hill after an extended illness. He was born August 22, 1956 in Kingston, New York. Don was the son of Donald and Arlene (McAllister) Gurney. He attended Springfield Schools and was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1974.Don was employed with Gurney Brothers in North Springfield for many years, and later started his own business, Gurney's Turf. He took great pride in tending the athletic fields in Springfield, while perfecting the art of perfectly straight lines.Don enjoyed bowling, while participating in many leagues in Springfield, Claremont, and Rutland. He held many records and was a proud recipient of several Vermont State Records for highest score. He also enjoyed fishing, while especially enjoying many early morning fishing trips with his son, Donny III.Don's first grandchild affectionately named him "Du Du" which he handled gracefully and lovingly.He was predeceased by his parents, Sister-in-Law Nancy, Brother-in-Law Rick Kingsley, and Sister-in-Law, Lori Muse.He is survived by his children, Francesca (John Paul) Arnoldy and Donald I. Gurney III his former wife and mother of his children, Veronica Todorovic, his two grandchildren, Hayden and Maeve's, five siblings - Sharon Kingsley, Daniel, Dale (Gene), Douglas (Lori), and Bradley (Deborah), numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.A Celebration of Life will be held on August 22, 2026, on Don's 70th birthday, at the home of Brad and Deborah Gurney in Weathersfield.Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, VT is assisting with arrangements.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
