Donald Glen Robertson

Donald Glen Robertson

Hankamer, TX

Donald Glen “Donnie” Robertson of Hankamer passed away on March 4, 2026. Born December 5, 1948 in Baytown, Texas to Lee Allison Robertson Sr. and Dorothy Jean Robertson, Donnie grew up exploring the outdoors with his father and two older brothers. An active Boy Scout, he earned his Eagle Scout award and learned to deer hunt from his mother, experiences that shaped his lifelong passion for wildlife and the natural world.

He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1967, where he served as co-captain of the swim team. Donnie then attended Texas A&M University, interrupting his studies to serve in the National Guard during the Vietnam era. He trained as a paratrooper and rose to the rank of Sergeant before returning to complete his degree in Wildlife Science in 1973. He cherished his time playing rugby with friends at A&M and remained close to those teammates for more than fifty years.

Donnie began his professional life at Exxon’s Baytown Refinery before embarking on a distinguished career as a Game Warden with Texas Parks & Wildlife. He served across Galveston Bay and the marshes and pine forests of East Texas, working in Polk and Harris Counties before retiring from Chambers County, where he made his home for many years. In his community, he was a dedicated umpire for youth and UIL baseball, often found behind the plate, and he regularly traveled to Austin with his brother for the state tournaments.

A lifelong horseman, Donnie rode with the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo security team for many years and held a lifetime committee badge. Even in retirement, his love of the outdoors remained constant. He pursued white-tailed deer, wild hogs, ducks, antelope, and exotics across South Texas, the Texas Hill Country, Wyoming, and Oklahoma with his brother and nephews, and he enjoyed crappie fishing, chasing redfish and trout in the bays, and shark fishing from the beaches. He delighted in sharing stories of these adventures with friends during his daily visits around Winnie and Baytown.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Jean Robertson, and his older brother Lee Allison Robertson Jr. He is survived by his brother James Edward Robertson and wife Debbie; niece Roxanna Liu and husband Ronald; nephews Beau Robertson and wife Amber, James Bryan Robertson and wife Eryn, Cole Robertson and wife Robyn, Cody Robertson and wife Angie; niece Casey Jo Chapman and husband Jeff; sister-in-law Peggy Robertson; and seven great-nieces and seven great-nephews. He is also survived by his uncle Thomas Reynolds Jr. and cousins Dowana Bates, Quinda Bennett, Tommy Reynolds, Kay Sluder, Wanda Brosch, and Jenny Gwosdz, along with extended family and many friends.

The family extends special gratitude to Bryan and Eryn for their devoted care and support during Donnie’s final days.
