We bid farewell to Donald Gene Sparks of Ashland, Alabama, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on March 8, 2026 at the age of 90. Donald touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Basil and Lassie Smith Sparks; his wife Vida Rebecca "Dimple" Sparks; his daughter Phyllis Upchurch; and his siblings, Bill Sparks, Mary Horn and Barbara Pace.

He is survived by: his children, Richard Sparks (Diane) of Port St, Rita Sparks Anderson (Russell) of Lineville and Stephen Sparks of Lineville; his grandchildren, Josie Shelby, Justin Sparks, Joseph Sparks, Patrick Sparks, Mike Sparks, Stephanie Upchurch, Jonathan Upchurch, Brooke Anderson Chappell, Emily Anderson Sheppard, Brett Sparks, Allison Sparks, Brayden Sparks and Payton Sparks; and his sister-in-law Luneal Clutter. He is also survived by 27 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Benefield Funeral Home-Ashland (85499 AL-9, Ashland, AL 36251). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 10th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location.
