Donald Gene Shaffer, 89, of Woodbury, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at his home. Born on July 28, 1936 in Potter Creek, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Clouse) Shaffer.
Gene graduated from Replogle High School with the Class of 1954. He served with distinction as a Sergeant with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections before retiring. A lifelong member of the Curryville Covenant Brethren Church, he also owned and operated Shaffer’s Train Shed, later known as Shaffer’s Full Steam Ahead Hobby Shop. Gene was a passionate model train enthusiast who took great pleasure in designing and hand-painting metal soldiers, and he remained an avid reader throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence (King) Shaffer, whom he married on March 5, 1955 in Bedford; his second wife, Peggy (Ritchey) Shaffer, whom he married on January 4, 1970 in McConnellsburg; his daughter, Rebecca A. (Shaffer) Hazenstab; and his siblings, Ronald Dean, G. Reid, and LaRue.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Sabrina K. Will (Joe); his son, Mark A. Shaffer (Julie); six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
