Donald Gene Evans March 4, 1945 – February 24, 2026

Donald Gene Evans, 80, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, just days before his 81st birthday.

Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha; his children, Joel (wife Karen) and Kelly; and his cherished grandchildren, Les, Madi, Bradley, Rebekah, and Jeremy. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, who affectionately knew him as “Uncle Duck.”

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean McHenry Evans.

Don retired after 20 years of dedicated service with the City of Bossier, where he worked in the Engineering and Surveying Department. He took great pride in his work and in the contributions he made to his community.

Eleven years ago, Don received a heart transplant that gave him the priceless gift of more time with his family. Those years were filled with love, adventure, and the simple joys he treasured most.

He loved being outdoors and was always on the move. His favorite times were spent riding his motorcycle on long trips out West, embracing the open road and wide horizons he loved so much. Those journeys reflected his independent spirit and his love for adventure. Whether traveling across state lines or simply enjoying the fresh air, Don felt most at home under an open sky. He also had a deep love for all things Western — from boots and hats to books and movies — and he carried that spirit with him throughout his life.

In quieter moments, Don enjoyed playing the guitar. Whether strumming familiar tunes or simply passing time with music in his hands, it was another way he expressed his love of life and brought joy to those around him.

His greatest delight was his grandchildren. He took immense pride in them and in their accomplishments. He loved spending time with them and especially loved making them laugh. Whether it was breakfast at Cafe USA on the weekends or watching a jazz concert on his phone, he treasured time with his grandkids any way he could get it. Every time he told them he loved them, he would follow it up with, “And don’t you ever forget it.”

Don had a remarkable gift for friendship. The moment he met someone, they became a friend. His warm smile, easy conversation, and welcoming nature left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

A funeral service will be held at Boone Funeral Home in Bossier City on March 9 at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Baylor Scott & White Foundation in the area of Heart Health, in gratitude for the additional years his transplant made possible.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of kindness, hard work, adventure, music, and deep love for his family will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
