Donald E. “Donny” Swartz, 81, formerly of Mifflintown, passed away on March 13, 2026, at Brookline Manor. Born on September 9, 1944, in Thompsontown, he was the son of the late Edward B. and Margaret (Zeigler) Swartz.
Donny worked at Empire Kosher Poultry for 25 years. He became a familiar and welcome sight in Mifflin and Mifflintown as the “can man,” walking the streets to gather aluminum cans for recycling. A man of quiet faith, he faithfully attended Mexico Full Gospel Mission. He found joy in bowling, playing Bingo, watching local softball games, and spending time at the Mifflin softball field and Agway. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Philadelphia Eagles, and cherished his family deeply. He took special pleasure in helping others, particularly children.
He is survived by six siblings, Arthur Swartz, Madeline Donaldson, Mary Ranck, Harry Swartz and wife Faye, John Swartz and wife Brenda, and Kathy Huss and husband John, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Swartz and James Swartz, and one sister, Jean Marshall.
