Dona Todd ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Wooster Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Pauls Valley on Mar. 6, 2026.Dona Sue (Bass) Todd was born on May 22, 1940, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Battie Bass and Lena (McCartey) Bass. She grew up in the Pernell, Oklahoma area and graduated from Pernell High School in 1958.During her childhood, Dona grew up surrounded by animals on the family property, including chickens, skunks, squirrels, bird dogs, horses, cows, and pigs. Her early years were filled with the simple joys of country life and close friendships. She often spent time with friends in groups rather than going on individual dates, enjoying the friendships that shaped her life. In school, she played the clarinet in the band and was also part of a musical quartet.Throughout her life, Dona was known as a hardworking and dedicated woman. On April 22, 2012, she married Will "Roger" Todd at Porter Hill Church of Christ. She spent her career working at a grocery store and later at the Velma Federal Credit Union. She and her family owned and operated a grocery store in Pernell known as the Old Walter Store, and she also owned the Skelly Station in Velma, Oklahoma. Later, she began her career with the United States Postal Service in Pernell as a clerk. She eventually transferred to Bradley, Oklahoma, where she served as Postmaster until her retirement.Faith played a central role in Dona's life. She was a devoted member of several congregations of the Church of Christ, including those in Pernell, Lindsay, Duncan, Porter Hill, and Mangum, Oklahoma, and later the Clarendon Church of Christ in Clarendon, Texas. If the church doors were open, she was there. She faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher and was known for her strong faith, dedication to worship, and encouragement to others to work hard, pray often, and remain faithful.Dona especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Babysitting them brought her great joy, and she was known for the love and care she gave to each of them.She also enjoyed many hobbies and creative pursuits. She took sewing classes with friends, attended painting classes, and loved any type of craft she could create. Cooking was another gift she shared with family and friends. She was famous for her Hello Dolly dessert, poppy seed casserole, turkey dressing, and chocolate cake. Her son-in-law affectionately called her the "Queen of Casseroles," often saying that if you gave her just three ingredients, she could make the best casserole you had ever tasted.The greatest highlights of Dona Sue's life were her children, grandchildren, church family, and the many friendships she cherished. She will be remembered for her kindness, her strong work ethic, her deep faith, and the love she shared with those around her.Dona is survived by her husband of the home; Will "Roger" Todd; Daughters, Sheila Munchel and husband Kevin of Elgin, Oklahoma, Shonda Mathis and husband Brian of Pernell, Oklahoma; Brother, Lendell Bass and wife Rebecca of Edmond, Oklahoma; Sisters, Helen Sims of Hydro, Oklahoma, Jana Bass of Jay, Oklahoma; Grandchildren, Arbin, Benjamin (Jennifer), Pete, Bailey (Jaylen), Shelby (Dylan), Shaley (Lane), Ryley, Cade, Shayley, Katie, Mac; ten great-grandchildren; bonus nephews, Mickey Mercer and wife Jacklyn of Velma, Oklahoma, Danny Mercer and wife Sheila of Duncan, Oklahoma; and a host of other friends and family.Dona was preceded in death by her parents, Battie and Lena Bass; Son, Nathan Wayne Mercer; and brother-in-law, Don Sims; and three grandsons Cody, Brock and Dakota.Services for Dona will be on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at the Pernell Church of Christ building with Joe Terrell officiating. Interment will follow at Foster Cemetery.
