Don DeSha, Jr. passed away on March 3, 2026, at the age of 66. A devoted husband, father, family member, and friend, Don lived with strength, deep integrity, and a generous spirit that touched everyone around him. He was known for his unwavering willingness to help others, often showing up without hesitation and offering both practical assistance and plenty of advice. Those who knew him remember his readiness to give the shirt off his own back.
Don held a lifelong passion for land speed racing and took special pride in his Barney-purple car, which reflected his vibrant personality and love of life. Racing brought him many close friendships and cherished memories. He was also a proud Tennessee Vols alumnus and dedicated fan, cheering his team with boundless enthusiasm. As a soil scientist, Don approached his work as a true service to his community, helping others understand and care for the land. His dedication and steady work ethic earned him the lasting respect of colleagues, farmers, and neighbors alike.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Hilda; his son, Gary Joe, and daughter-in-law, Christy, and their family; his aunt, Jeanne; his cousin, David and his family; his nieces, Molly, Lea Anna, Jessica, and his special niece, Katy; and his nephews, John and Chris. He also held dear Marisa, Mackensie, and Luke, whom he loved as his own and who brought him great pride and joy.
Don’s memory will endure in the love he gave, the kindness he showed, and the example he set for those fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed.
