Houston, TX
Dominic Mendoza Capalad passed away on March 8, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on May 12, 1949, in Candelaria, Quezon, Philippines, to Sergio Jusay Capalad and Susana Nadres Mendoza, he spent his early years in his beloved hometown before moving to Houston, Texas, in 1981.
Dominic cherished time spent with his children, siblings, and extended family. He loved to drive and was always ready to take others where they needed to go, often enjoying long drives while listening to country music. In his free time, he found joy in cooking and gathering with his siblings, especially during visits to Sam Houston Race Park, where laughter and lasting memories were shared.
Known for his big personality and even bigger sense of humor, Dominic was the comedian of the family. He was often the loudest voice in the room, quick with a joke or a story that brought smiles to those around him. His optimistic spirit and reassuring presence comforted his loved ones, and he instilled in his children the values of family, togetherness, and respect for elders, especially their beloved Lola.
Dominic shared different chapters of his life with Josie O. Mota, Felinda H. Capalad, who preceded him in death in 2006, and Irene P. Capalad. He is lovingly survived by his children Claudette Pulido, Sydney Capalad, Jasmine Powery, Claire Buchholz, Christian Capalad, Jasmine Joy Carlton, Chester Capalad, Erin-Joy Davis, Domingo Capalad, Jr., and Jeffrey Capalad, as well as his mother, Susana Capalad. One of nine siblings, he is also survived by his brothers and sisters Rosita Capalad, Raul and Evelyn Capalad, Beny and Linda Capalad, Panfila and Alexander (RIP) Jocson, Ester and Alfredo Palmas, Charie Capalad, Delfin and Mary Ann Capalad, and Ron and Jocy Capalad, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Sergio Jusay Capalad.
Dominic will be deeply missed, yet his laughter, love for family, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of love, faith, and devotion to family will continue through the generations that follow.
