Doloris J. Lumpkins

Jacksonville, IL

Doloris Jo Anne Lumpkins, 95, of Jacksonville, Illinois, died Thursday, March 12, 2026, at The Grove Health and Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville.

Born August 2, 1930, in Hartsburg, she was the daughter of Henry and Rose (Meyer) Dews of Chicago. Doloris spent her early childhood in Chicago with her sister, Maurita Nadene, sharing many adventures together before moving to Jacksonville at age thirteen when Maurita began attending the Illinois School for the Deaf. Maurita preceded her in death.

In 1945, Doloris married Ernest J. Ankrom of rural Jacksonville. They had four sons: Reginald R. (Jane Lukeman) of Jacksonville, Everett Carroll (Carolyn Hansmeier) of Benton, Jimmy Wayne (Jean Elliott) of Jacksonville, and Michael Ernest (Janet Perkins) of Bellingham, Washington. Widowed at twenty when Ernest died of polio in 1951, Doloris kept her promise to him and raised their family with steadfast devotion. She later married William L. Lumpkins in 1954. They had three children: Deborah Jones (Bob) of Temple, Texas, and sons Keith Leslie and Mark, both deceased. William preceded her in death in 1999.

Doloris is survived by her children, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Her family will always remember her generosity and willingness to offer food or help to anyone in need.
