Dolores M. Walter
May 1, 1928— March 10, 2026
St. Marys, PA
Dolores M. Walter, 97, of St. Marys, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Elk Haven Nursing Home. Born on May 1, 1928 in St. Marys, she was the daughter of the late Benedict and Barbara Lecker Friedl. A lifelong resident of the area, Dolores graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1946. She worked at the Stackpole Carbon Co. before marrying Francis H. Walter on May 13, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The couple recently celebrated 75 years of marriage, sharing a lifetime of devotion.
Dolores devoted herself to raising their seven children and later cared for her parents and other family members. She returned to work at the Lyn Clare Flower Shop and Greenhouse and served as a teacher’s aide in the St. Marys School District. A faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, she gave generously of her time as a volunteer in the Funeral Outreach Ministry, at the parish bakery, and as a Eucharistic Minister. She also volunteered at the Christian Food Bank.
Dolores found quiet joy in crocheting, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, watching birds at the feeder, and tending her flowers. Above all, she dedicated her life to God and her family, offering unwavering support and love to everyone around her.
She is survived by her husband, Francis H. Walter; their children, Gary Walter (Kristine) of Portland, OR, Richard “Rick” Walter (Nancy) of Elizabethtown, Ann Undercoffer (Mike) of St. Marys, Elaine Bartges (Harry) of Byhalia, MS, Linda Gregory (Tom) of St. Marys, James “Jim” Walter (Lisa) of Monroeville, and Daniel “Dude” Walter (Angie) of St. Marys; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wallace “Bud” Friedl and Eugene “Gene” Friedl.
