Dolores M. Buchberger

Dolores Buchberger, age 96, passed away on March 4, 2026, following a short illness. She was born on August 25, 1929, in Appleton, daughter of the late Clarence and Minnie (Artz) Buchberger.

Dolores was employed by Home Mutual Insurance Company (now Secura) for 43 years as a Legal Assistant, having been fortunate to work with many people she greatly respected, retiring in 1991. While so employed, during many vacation periods and again later following her retirement, she had the opportunity to begin a very enjoyable “second career”, working with her sister at Ad-Vantage, Inc., an advertising specialty agency. Her work there involved product selection, photography sessions and catalog preparation for the Real Estate division and included traveling together with her sister and brother-in-law to national and regional real estate conventions throughout the United States, meeting many special customers and friends over the years.

When not working, Dolores enjoyed golfing, especially with her nephews as they were growing up, first teaching and soon learning from them; bowling; being an avid Brewers and Packers fan – including attending the famous Ice Bowl game, and traveling. Over the years she traveled many times throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, meeting many special friends. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and was a devoted caregiver during their illnesses.

Dolores is survived by her sister-in-law Yvonne Buchberger, Darboy; her sister’s three sons: Steve (Sherry) Rettler, Scottsdale, AZ; David (Kathy) Rettler, Scottsdale, AZ; and Thomas (Courtnay) Rettler, Appleton. Also, her brother’s four children: Nancy (Jon) Torma, Kimberly; James (Cathy) Buchberger, De Pere, Lynn (Gregg) Weber, Neenah; and Vicki (Scott) Smith, Peshtigo. She is further survived by very special great-nieces and great-nephews and many special friends. Her parents, her brother Raymond, an infant brother James, her brother-in-law Fred Rettler and her beloved sister and best friend, Marie Rettler, preceded her in death.

A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on March 18, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette, St., Appleton with Fr. Jim Jugenheimer, officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton.

A memorial has been established in Dolores’ name for St. Pius X Parish.
