Dolores Jean Haynes Gott

Dolores Jean Haynes Gott, 88, formerly of Kingsport, passed away on March 15, 2026, in Hickory, North Carolina, surrounded by loved ones. She taught for many years at Cedar Grove Elementary and Ketron Middle School. A devoted member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church for more than six decades, Dolores served in countless capacities. Together with her husband, she led the Carpenter’s Helpers Furniture Ministry for ten years. She also poured her heart into Bible Study Fellowship and the Emmaus Walk.

Dolores cherished her family above all, delighting in spending extended weeks with her grandchildren. A gifted cook, she was especially known for her signature stacked strawberry shortcake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aubon Haynes and Zella Spencer Haynes; her husband of 65 years, P. Glenn Gott; her brothers, Doug, Floyd, and Claude Haynes; and her sister, Maude Haynes.

She is survived by her children, Steve Gott and his wife Lavinia, Teresa Compton and her husband John, and Lori Starnes and her husband Steven; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
