Dolores McCutcheon Aiton-Brewer, 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Silver Treasures on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Born Dolores Anita McCutcheon on December 25, 1932, in Newberry, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Durant Winter and Catherine Rauton McCutcheon. A lifelong resident of Greenwood and Callison, she graduated from Greenwood High School in the class of 1950 and enjoyed a long career with Greenwood Mills Executive Office, retiring after 46 years of service.
She was married first to the late John Broadus Aiton, Jr. for 47 years, and later to the late James E. Brewer for 13 years. A woman of deep faith, Dolores grew up at Callie Self Baptist Church and was married there. She then became a devoted member of Bold Spring Baptist Church for more than 70 years. She was the matriarch of her family, loving them deeply and serving as a tender caregiver to her son and both of her husbands. She found joy in reading, playing card games, and camping at the beach with her cherished family.
She is survived by her three daughters, Carol Aiton (Dewey) Cook, Kitty Aiton (Larry) Wright, and Emilie Aiton (Tom) Link; five grandchildren, Carolee Cook (Todd) Dover, Julianne Cook (Ryan) Wilson, John Graham (Cason) Wright, Joshua Tyler (Katie) Nelson, and Alison Nelson (Xenn) Frietze; and six great-grandchildren, John Hampton Dover, Catherine Scott Trull, Warner Graham Wright, Cecilia Coleman Dover, Molly Aiton Wright, and Coleman Robert Wilson. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia McCutcheon Whiddon; sisters-in-law, Jorene Vickers McCutcheon and Patsy Rhoden McCutcheon; and special friends, James and Elsie Jackson. She was predeceased by her son, John Broadus Aiton, III, and her two brothers, Ernest Thomas McCutcheon and Nolan Ossie McCutcheon.
