Dildreth Carlton Glover

Tallahassee, FL

Dildreth Carlton Glover, affectionately known as Dill and Pop-pop, was born on May 20, 1932, to James Troy Glover and Clifford Idell Banks. He passed away on March 2, 2026. Predeceased by his wife and high school sweetheart, Vaunita Spencer Glover, in 2018, he is survived by his children, James Glover and his wife Christine of Jacksonville, Florida, Gary Glover and his wife Wanda of St. Augustine, Florida, and Deborah Linton and her husband William of Tallahassee, Florida; his grandchildren, Alisha Linton, Carson Linton and his wife Yunxia, Amy Kimble and her husband David, Loren Peres and her husband Steven, and Sarah Amador and her husband Joshua; and his great-grandchildren, Cid, Parker, Sophie, Ellie, Jonah, Adelyn, and Ella Christine.

The second youngest of a large family, Dill was not born into comfort. After his father’s death during his early teenage years, he worked while attending school to help support his family. Following his marriage to Vaunita and the arrival of their children, he labored as a track worker in the intense Florida heat, developing the broad-shouldered strength and remarkable stamina that marked him throughout his long life. His disciplined habits, including complete abstinence from alcohol and tobacco, contributed to his enduring vitality.

In his later career, Dill served in law enforcement as Sergeant of Traffic for the Fort Pierce Police Department, where he supervised traffic enforcement and earned recognition as a Master Marksman on the departmental pistol team. He then joined the Florida East Coast Railway as a special agent during a difficult nine-year labor strike, later advancing to Roadmaster of track maintenance and ultimately retiring as a State of Florida railroad track inspector.

Throughout his ninety-three years, Dill was an avid photographer, fisherman, marksman, and rose gardener. A dedicated student of the Bible, he taught Sunday Bible Study classes at Immanuel Baptist Church in Tallahassee and served on the diaconates of both Ancient City Baptist Church in St. Augustine and Immanuel Baptist Church. He cherished lively debates on theology and the simple pleasure of sharing stories with his children and their spouses. Above all, Pop-pop held deep love for his children and especially for his grandchildren, who were the joy of his later years. His strong faith and generous heart leave a profound absence in the lives of all who knew him.
