Diane Reeves
August 24, 1950— March 6, 2026
Detroit, MI
Diane Reeves was born on August 24, 1950, in Rosedale, Mississippi to Mack Garrett Sr. and Cleo Garrett. The youngest of three siblings and the cherished only daughter, she moved with her family from Mississippi to Detroit, Michigan, where they sought a better life.
Diane attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Northwestern High School, where she participated in track and field. She discovered a natural talent for organization, attention to detail, and multitasking. After high school, she entered an apprenticeship program at General Motors, training in clerical and administrative support. Her professional path led her through roles at AC Delco and The American Heart Association before she found her long-term home at Ford Motor Company. She served in several executive administrative assistant positions and retired on September 14, 2018, from the HR Labor and Affairs Department.
Beyond her career, Diane’s true passion was interior design. Family and friends admired her exceptional eye for color, her intuitive sense of hues, and her ability to transform any space into a warm and beautiful home.
In 1969, Diane married and became the devoted mother of two children, Anika and Nikai Reeves. Their marriage lasted eighteen years. Later in life, she found lasting love with Ernest Lyons, who preceded her in death. Diane passed away on March 6, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack Sr. and Cleo Garrett, her brothers Mack Jr. and David, and her beloved companion Ernest Lyons. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Anika (Jerome) and Nikai; her grandchildren, Kaiyah, Kaitlynn, Vincent, and Jeremiah; her sisters-in-law, Willor and Kelly Garrett; and her nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends.
Diane will be remembered for her creativity, resilience, determination, and the love, grace, and kindness she showed to everyone in her life.
