May 28, 1958— March 10, 2026
Portland, TX
Diana Acosta, age 67, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at Harbor Hospice in Portland, Texas, after a long and courageous battle with many health challenges. Born on May 28, 1958, to David Guzman Sr. and Yolanda Govea, she married the love of her life, David M. Acosta, on June 12, 1976. Together they built a life filled with love, resilience, and family, raising four children.
Diana pursued studies in early childhood education and dedicated her career to helping young children learn and grow. She worked as a Texas Migrant Council Teacher and later as a Head Start teacher, a role she loved deeply until illness forced her retirement. Her work touched the lives of many children and families throughout the years.
A woman full of personality and passion, Diana loved butterflies, sunflowers, angels, beautiful dresses, and anything antique. She enjoyed listening to classic music from Chicago, Journey, and The Carpenters, tended to her plants with care, and rarely turned away a stray cat, often feeding the neighborhood cats with a smile. Known for her brutally honest nature, she believed strongly in telling the truth without sugarcoating, because she felt honesty helped people grow. She had a fiery spirit, wasn’t shy about the occasional F-bomb, and possessed the unique ability to make you laugh even while setting you straight.
Throughout her life, Diana showed incredible strength and resilience as she faced kidney failure requiring dialysis, strokes, heart attacks, aneurysms, and, in the end, dementia. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved her family fiercely and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her father, David Guzman Sr.; her loving husband of nearly 50 years, David M. Acosta; her children Ivy Adame (Chris Adame), David Acosta Jr. (Laura Lugo Acosta), and Katy Ballesteros (Daniel Ballesteros Sr.); and her siblings Greg Govea, Pete Govea (Brenda Govea), Janie Kaltenbacher (Owen Kaltenbacher), and Olivia Torres (Jason Torres). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Anthony Adame (Maxine Herrera), Krista Adame, Mia Acosta, Caylee Bankston, Scarlett Ballesteros, Daniel Ballesteros Jr., Lilian Acosta, and Aaron Ballesteros, as well as her great-grandchildren Madalyna Herrera, Mercy Adame, Malakhai Adame, and Maeva Adame.
Diana was preceded in death by her beloved son John David Acosta and her mother Yolanda Govea. She was a strong, loving, and unforgettable woman who lived life on her own terms. Her honesty, humor, and fierce love for her family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
