Derrick Dewitt Cofer, 64, of Larue, Texas, passed away on March 1, 2026 in Tampa, Florida.
Born on February 12, 1962 in Smith County, Texas to Ruby Jewel and John Cofer, Derrick grew up in Larue and graduated from Brownsboro High School. He continued his education at Cisco College in Abilene and Tyler Junior College before earning his electrician certification from ETI Trade School in Athens and later obtaining his State of Texas Plumbing License. A dedicated and hardworking man, he worked as a plumber for more than a decade, served as an over-the-road driver for Stevens Transport in Dallas, operated a bucket truck for Striping Tech Inc. in Tyler, and drove for CUDD Energy Services in Kilgore.
Known for his loyalty, humor, and deep love for his community, Derrick was a steadfast family man who took genuine pride in helping others. He was always willing to lend a hand, often performing plumbing work for neighbors and friends in need. In his free time, he found joy in fishing, farming, riding horses, and drawing.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Tameshia Cofer and Taleshia Cofer, and his grandchildren, X'avier Cofer and Jewel'Liana Smith, along with a host of relatives and friends who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Jewel and John Cofer, and a stillborn brother, John Michael Cofer. His life and legacy will continue to live on through those who loved him.
