Walnut Cove, NC
Deputy Kaleb Marquice MitchellSeptember 20, 2001 - March 7, 2026The world was a dark place after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, but just nine days later, Earth became a bit brighter. On Thursday, September 20, Jermel Omar Mitchell and Amy Nicole Mitchell welcomed their first child-a baby boy they named Kaleb Marquice Mitchell. From the beginning, they knew he was very special-a kind, generous and thoughtful soul destined for great things.Kaleb would eventually become the big brother of four siblings, for whom he consistently set a Godly example of what a person should be. The Mitchell siblings had an unbreakable bond with a closeness rarely seen in many families. Kaleb adored his three younger brothers, and the youngest Mitchell sibling-the only girl, Gabbi-was extra-special to him. He treated her like a little princess and was very protective of her.As Kaleb grew up to become a fearless protector and full of Jesus, his favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Baptized on December 1, 2019, he became a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. James Tatum.Kaleb grew up in Walnut Cove, loving motorcycles, traveling, going out on the boat, and doing anything that allowed him to spend time with his whole family. He was a 2020 graduate of South Stokes High School where he played football and became a champion wrestler-all-conference three years and a three-time state qualifier. In 2021, he graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Forsyth Technical Community College where he received the "Best Driver Award" in his class.Upon graduation from BLET, Kaleb was hired to join the King Police Department where he served from 2021-2024. The little kindergartner who had drawn a picture of himself as a police officer had grown up to fulfill his calling. During this time, he worked as part of the Governor's Highway Safety Program and successfully completed many courses of training for his career. In 2024, Kaleb was awarded certificates of appreciation and merit for his dedication and professionalism in supporting Piedmont Triad International Airport dignitary protection. That same year, he completed training at Surry Community College to become a sniper on the SWAT team. Before his time in King was done, he was promoted to Corporal.During that time, Kaleb married the woman who had been his soulmate since they had become inseparable in fourth grade. As their wedding ceremony ended, a rainbow suddenly appeared above them-a symbol of God's promise. As husband and wife, Kaleb and Hailey fulfilled their promises to each other. Hailey stood by his side to support him as he soared in his law enforcement career, bearing their beloved son Westen in 2023. Kaleb was a Biblical husband-a leader, protector and provider that Hailey could depend on for everything she and their children would ever need. His family was his world. In 2025, Kaleb went to work for the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office where he joined the motorcycle unit and excelled as he completed more career training. His brother Jordan also came to work there as a deputy. Growing up watching "The Andy Griffith Show" with their grandpa, Kaleb and Jordan had decided as little boys that they were going to serve in law enforcement together, and so they did.Kaleb was serving faithfully on Saturday, March 7, when the world once again became a bit darker. At age 24, Officer Mitchell transitioned to his Heavenly home while in the line of duty. He entered the presence of his Lord Jesus while being willing to lay down his life for those he served.Kaleb was predeceased by his grandmother Belinda Mullins, great-grandparents Hurley and Beatrice Mullins, great-grandfather Lydge Burns, great-grandmothers Alma Mitchell and Viola Penn, great-uncle Brad Mullins, great-aunt Lena Burns, and best friend Cole Southern. He is survived by his wife, Hailey Faye Mitchell; son, Westen Omar Mitchell, and daughter, Ivy Marie Mitchell due in June; parents, Jermel and Amy; brothers, Jordan (Abygail), Noah and Isaac; sister, Gabrielle; paternal grandparents, Ronnie and Phyllis Mitchell; maternal grandparents, Eddie and Karri Mullins; great-grandmother, Joyce Burns; aunts, Misty Mullins and Ashlee Blankenship; uncles, Zachary Blankenship, Eddie Jr. Mullins, Derrick (Sharecia) Mitchell and Ronnie Jr. (Jan) Mitchell; cousins, Elijah (Marleigh) Flippin, Aaleigha Flippin, Aamaya Flippin, Courtney Peoples, Brin Mitchell, Kristien Mitchell, Keeona Moten, Nycelle Mitchell, Naomi Mitchell, Tacara Osborne, Letha Rocchi, Chase Osborne, Andy Rocchi, Corey Rocchi and Asher Rocchi; father- and mother-in-law, Chad and Blaire Williams; sister-in-law, Emily (Zack) Jones; nephews, Hercules, Atlas and Maverick; and multitudes of friends. The family will welcome friends for a public visitation on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Woodland Baptist Church, 1175 Bethania-Rural Hall Road, Rural Hall, NC 27045.
