Dennis James King

1949 — 2026

Monroe, NC

Dennis James King, 76, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Shallotte, North Carolina. Born on October 31, 1949, in the back bedroom of his parents’ home by the railroad tracks in Monroe, he was the son of the late Luther and Gladys King. He was preceded in death by his brothers David, Ronald, and Steve King.

A talented and resourceful man, James was a Civil War reenactor, an evangelist, a licensed captain, a master carpenter, and a skilled mechanic who could fix almost anything. He loved fishing, hunting, shooting, and building—whether bottle rockets, cigar box guitars, or whatever project captured his imagination. Proudly Southern and country to his core, he lived with a warm, outgoing spirit. He never met a stranger, spoke often of his faith, and greeted everyone with kindness, compassion, and his favorite phrase, “Mercy, mercy, mercy is for everyone.”

He is survived by his daughters Renee Munives, Brenda Griffin, Crystal Sterling, and Denise Plott; grandchildren Natalia Villamil, Lily Munives, Benefird Sydney Fredrick, Gabrielle Diggs, and several great-grandchildren; and special friends Andrew Smith and Juan Minoz.

James was a light to those around him, a devoted father, and a cherished friend. He has now been welcomed into Heaven, reunited with his parents and loved ones, free from suffering and filled with joy. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
