July 19, 1955— March 13, 2026
Richmond, KY
Dennis Field, 70, of Richmond, Kentucky, died peacefully at his home on March 13, 2026, after a courageous battle with the rare combination of Parkinson’s Disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
Born in Mason City, Iowa, Dennis spent his early years on the family farm with his mother Doris, his grandfather, Aunt Mim, Uncle Gail, and cousins Bruce, Peter, Martha, and David. Those formative years forged deep and lasting family bonds. A descendant of teachers, he placed great value on education. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University, an MBA from Southern Methodist University, a Master of Statistics from ISU, and a PhD in Industrial Education and Technology in 1997. He enjoyed a distinguished career in both the private sector and academia across Germany, Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, and Kentucky. At Eastern Kentucky University he rose to the rank of full Professor and was named Professor Emeritus upon retirement.
Quiet by nature, Dennis possessed a sly sense of humor that surfaced at just the right moment. His calm presence and humble demeanor served as a steady anchor for his family, even when it occasionally frustrated them. He cherished visits from loved ones, thoughtful conversation, Dutch letter pastries, a Friday night Old-Fashioned, and Crank & Boom ice cream. As a husband and father, he set a high standard of devotion and reliability. He showed up for every important moment in his children’s lives, offered timely reminders to “make good choices,” and left an example they will carry with them always.
He is welcomed into heaven by his daughter Grace Hannah, his mother Doris, aunts Mim (Gail) Bailey and Lois (Wayne) Northway, and mother-in-law Marilyn (Jack) Blasingame. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Susan, children Kate, Matt, and Julia, and many family members and friends. In keeping with his wishes, his brain has been donated to the National Institute of Health’s Brain Donor program at the University of Miami to advance research on ALS and other neurological diseases.
