Denise D. Whorton

Denise D. Whorton passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 77. Born to the late Charles and Agnes Diffley, she grew up with a deep sense of family, faith, and dedication that guided her throughout her life and touched everyone she met.

She was the devoted wife of 53 years to Gerald Whorton. Together they built a loving home and shared a partnership that remained the foundation of their lives. Denise was a proud and loving mother to Kevin (and his wife Donna) and Deirdre Cesario (and her husband John). Her greatest joy was being “Nanny” to Aidan, James, and Alexa, who filled her life with pride and happiness.

A graduate of Marymount Manhattan College with a degree in History, Denise later earned her Master’s Degree in Education from St. John’s University. Teaching was both her profession and her true calling. She began her career at Our Lady Help of Christians and spent the next 20 years at Our Lady Star of the Sea, where she became a beloved educator, mentor, and role model. Her classroom was a place of encouragement, curiosity, and kindness, and she left a lasting impression on generations of students.

Denise will be remembered for her warm heart, gentle wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the lessons she taught, and the love she shared so generously. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
