Whorton, who died peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 77.Born to the late Charles and Agnes Diffley, she grew up with a strong sense of family, faith, and dedication that shaped the life she would go on to live and the many people she would inspire.She was the devoted wife of 53 years to Gerald Whorton, whose partnership and love were the foundation of a beautiful life together. She was a loving and proud mother to Kevin (and his wife Donna) and Deirdre Cesario (and her husband John), and her greatest joy was being "Nanny" to Aidan, James, and Alexa, who brought endless pride and happiness to her life.She was a graduate of Marymount Manhattan College, where she earned her degree in History, and later received her Master's Degree in Education from St. John's University. Education was not just her profession-it was her calling and passion.She began her teaching career at Our Lady Help of Christians, where she first discovered the profound impact a caring teacher can have on young lives. She later spent 20 dedicated years teaching at Our Lady Star of the Sea, where she became a beloved educator, mentor, and role model to countless students. Her classroom was a place of encouragement, curiosity, and kindness, and she left an enduring mark on generations of students who will always remember the difference she made in their lives.Above all, she will be remembered for her warm heart, gentle wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the lessons she taught, and the love she shared so generously.She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and friends and all who were fortunate enough to know her.The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.Mas off Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church at 10:00 AMInternment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
