Delaney "Pap" Newsome

Delaney "Pap" Newsome, 83, of Caney Creek in Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Pikeville Medical Center. Born on April 2, 1942, to the late John B. and Lizzie Newsom of Caney Creek, he was a devoted and loving husband to Betty Lamar Potter Newsom for 63 years. A retired heavy equipment operator for Enterprise Coal Company in Robinson Creek, Kentucky, Delaney was a two-time cancer survivor whose strong faith remained steadfast throughout his life. He consistently gave God all the credit for his journey.

He was preceded in death by his five siblings, John Henry, Acie, James Clyde, Dacie Hamilton, and Dicie Vinson.

Delaney is survived by his wife, Betty Lamar Potter Newsom; his son, Steven Dwayne (Robin) Newsom of Dorton, Kentucky; his grandson, Steven Cole Newsom of Dorton, Kentucky; and a host of extended family and friends who will cherish his memory.
