Dean Clifton Larson
March 31, 1947— March 9, 2026
Layton, UT
Dean Clifton Larson passed away just days before his 79th birthday, after facing several health challenges with quiet courage. Born in Ogden, Utah on March 31, 1947 to Clifton Blaine Larson and Reva Toponce Larson, he was the second of five children and the only son. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1965, later earning a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering from Weber State University and a master’s degree from the University of Utah.
While in college, Dean married Kathy Shepherd and became the father of two daughters, Lonee and Shawna. Following that marriage, he wed Patricia Wendel Lewis and lovingly helped raise her children, Brad, Ryan, and Alisa Lewis. Dean and Pat shared 39 years together. His professional life included positions at Max Factor, Iomega, Evans and Sutherland, and Hill Air Force Base, where he retired in 2014.
Dean found joy in life’s simpler pleasures. He loved watching football, fixing things with his extensive collection of tools, eating out, taking day trips with Bruce and Karla, traveling with the “Alaska group,” playing cards with his club, attending performances at Centerpoint Theater, and reading books that strengthened his faith. He served willingly in many capacities within his church and treated others with consistent kindness, never seeking attention or speaking ill of anyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved daughter Lonee and her husband Chad Harmon, his sisters Kaylene Peterson, Trudy Firestack, and Terri Thiel, and in-laws Ruth and Harold Moon. He is survived by his wife Pat, children Shawna Gillen (LJ), Brad Lewis, Ryan Lewis (Jenny Nimori), and Alisa Lewis, grandchildren Seth Shipley (Maddie), Jakob Shipley, Chase Harmon, Joshua Ellsworth, Ari Gillen, Ian Lewis, and Drew Lewis, great-grandson Wren Shipley, and his sister Jeannie (Clay) Hansen.
