Deacon Noe Cortez, 69, of Avenel, passed away on March 10, 2026, at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in San Salvador, El Salvador, on November 11, 1956, to Angel and Carmen Cortez, Noe came to the United States and built a life defined by faith, service, and quiet strength.
He worked for more than twenty years as a supervisor at Strato Corporation before retiring. Noe later attended St. Elizabeth’s University, earned a BA in Theology, and was ordained in 1998 as a Deacon at Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, La Asuncion Church in Perth Amboy. A man of deep and abiding faith, he served his church and community with compassion, understanding, and genuine love, touching the lives of countless people.
Noe cherished time with his family and enjoyed playing soccer in his younger years. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Epifania “Eppie” Cortez; his daughters, Melissa Cassidy and her husband Mark, and Diana Alvarez and her husband Robin; his five grandchildren, Nina, Robin Jr., Gianna, Lorena, and Camilla, who knew him as their beloved Papa; his three sisters, Marieta Rochinsky, Francesca Cortez, and Marisela Jablonski; two nieces, Jennifer and Michelle Rochinsky; and two nephews, Bruce and Kenneth Jablonski.
