Sumter, SC
David Young Shipman, 62, of Sumter, South Carolina, passed away on March 7, 2026. Born on April 23, 1962, he grew up in Sumter, where he developed the strong values of hard work, kindness, and generosity that defined his life. David loved being outdoors and found great joy in fishing, boating, and working with his hands. He was happiest when helping others, known for his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need, even a stranger, and his generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Music was an important part of David’s life. He loved to sing and play for family, filling gatherings with laughter, warmth, and song. He never stopped making a joyful noise, humming and whistling his way through even the most mundane tasks. An adventurous spirit, he spent many years jumping out of airplanes or off bridges, buildings, and any other tall structures he could climb. David believed life should be exciting and fun, and his adventurous lifestyle reflected that belief. He also possessed a great talent as a photographer, capturing the special moments of life’s most memorable events. Many people have physical evidence of their most treasured memories because of his work.
Above all else, David loved his family deeply. He was incredibly proud of his daughters and cherished every moment with his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
He is survived by his two daughters, Whitney Glenn (Steven) and Taylor Daye (Levi); his four cherished grandchildren, Ruby, Riley, Sadie, and Ember; his loving parents, Clarence and Beverly Shipman; his sister, Connie Moise (Marc) and their sons, David and Sam; and his brother, Craig Shipman (Trish) and their children, Andrew and Courtney. David was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the music remembered, and the kindness he showed to everyone around him.
