July 7, 1963— March 9, 2026
Herriman, UT
David William Novotny, cherished husband, father, brother, grandpa, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 9, 2026. Born on July 7, 1963, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to Edward George Novotny and Dena Jean Crawford, Dave graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1981. He began his family in Salt Lake City, where he became the proud father of Tom and Sarah. In 2009, he married the love of his life, Angela Nelson.
Dave worked in the auto body industry from the age of 13 until his retirement in July 2025. He possessed a great love of music, becoming an accomplished clarinet player and drummer, and took special joy in seeing his favorite band, Dream Theater, in concert the year before his passing. He also cherished boating, fishing, camping, NASCAR, cooking, and storytelling, but nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Geezer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Dan, and his cousin Mike. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Angie; son Tom (Jacqueline) Novotny; daughter Sarah (Steve) Crosby; sisters Christine (Jeff) Hart and Nicole (Mark) Smith; brother Edward Novotny; grandchildren Clayton, Vivienne, Luke, Tucker, and Cecilia; nephews Brian, Michael, Justin, Tyler, Ken, Kurt, and Kane; nieces Nicole and Hailey; his beloved Uncle John; and his dogs, Kandi and Bristol.
In accordance with his wishes, Dave was cremated and his ashes will be spread in his favorite places.
