David W. Santangelo, 57, of Youngstown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 11, 2026. Born on March 13, 1968, in Youngstown, he was the son of Sallie E. (Mitchell) Santangelo and the late Victor Santangelo Sr.
David earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Youngstown State University in 1991. He went on to serve with the Youngstown Police Department for 27 years, retiring on October 2, 2020. He approached his work in law enforcement with seriousness and pride, dedicating nearly three decades to protecting and serving his community.
Outside of his career, David found joy in the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting for deer, rabbit, squirrel, and the occasional groundhog. He had a spontaneous spirit and loved taking road trips. He also enjoyed following hockey, bowling in a league, and playing golf, often sharing these activities with friends and family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Susan Kellerman, whom he married on November 11, 2009; his son, David Santangelo; his mother, Sallie Santangelo; his brother, Michael (Gail) Santangelo; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Santangelo Sr., and his brother, Victor Santangelo Jr.
