Chambersburg, PA

David W. Rahauser, Esq., 76, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 11, 2026, in Chambersburg Hospital. Born on May 30, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Dr. David M. Rahauser and Janet Cunningham Rahauser.

A graduate of Mercersburg Academy with the Class of 1967, Dave went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin from Dickinson College in 1971. While at Dickinson, he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and played on the men’s basketball team. He taught Latin and American History for the Cumberland Valley School District from 1971 to 1974. He later received his Juris Doctorate from the John Marshall School of Law in Chicago in 1977 and was licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania. Returning to the state that same year, he made his home in Chambersburg and practiced law for the remainder of his career. Dave served as a prosecutor in the Franklin County District Attorney’s office from 1979 until 2016. He was a longtime member of both the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Franklin County Bar Association. In addition to his legal work, he taught Latin at Faust Junior High School from 1989 until 2009.

Dave enjoyed golfing, attending the Kentucky Derby with friends, and cheering for the Washington Capitals. He loved to travel, especially to visit monuments and museums, and was rarely without a book in hand. A passionate music lover, he appreciated many different bands and genres. Above all, he took great pride in his son’s accomplishments and found his deepest joy in spending time with his wife and son. A dedicated teacher and mentor, Dave generously shared his knowledge and offered steadfast support to those around him, leaving a lasting impact on many lives.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Cassandra (Weiner) Rahauser; his son, Marcus W. Rahauser of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Charles (Elizabeth) Rahauser of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Thomas (Susan) Rahauser of Ashville, New York; and several nieces and nephews.
