He was predeceased by: his parents, Amy Vaughan Hatcher and Gatewood M. Hatcher; his brother Billy Hatcher; and his granddaughter Reagan Hatcher. He is survived by: his wife Patsy Simmons Hatcher; his children, David Thomas Hatcher, Jr., Bobby E. Hatcher (Rhonda), Melanie Hatcher Soronen (Tim), Jerry Holcombe (Peggy), Christy Abbey (Brad) and Steve Holcombe (Betsy); and his grandchildren, Michael Dennis, Destiny Farrar, Quinton Soronen, Devon Drinkard, Matthew Soronen, Michael Soronen, Robby Hatcher, Rileigh Hatcher, Ryan Hatcher and April Hopkins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Cuba Baptist Church (102 2nd Ave, Cuba, AL 36907). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 12th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gatewood Hatcher Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of West Alabama or the York Lions Club.
