David Winn ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Wilderness Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Chinook on Mar. 17, 2026.David Scott Winn III passed away on March 15, 2026, in Hays, Montana. Born in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of the late David Scott Winn II of Indepence, Missouri and Leona Bell of Lodge Pole, Montana.David's world was shaped by the family ranch business; it was the core of who he was. Coming from a legacy of talent, his mother, "Sweetie" Bell, was a champion barrel racer. His father, Dave, was a renowned rodeo cowboy, auctioneer, and stuntman. David also went on to serve as a licensed and bonded auctioneer, selling homes, autos, and livestock.David did lots of high school and pro rodeos and was always a skilled and kind horse trainer, as well as a competitive team roper. He assisted in many rodeo productions. David was educated in the Los Angeles school system and eventually studied Vet and Equine Sciences at Pierce College. His athletic talent and cowboy roots eventually took him to the screen. David and his brother, Dean, worked as stuntmen and actors, appearing in numerous Westerns, commercials, and even Michael Jackson music videos. His passion for horses and the cowboy lifestyle never faded. He was a true "Jack of all trades and Master of many."Deeply connected to his Indian heritage, David found great peace in his Native traditions. He even built sweat lodges where he and those closest to him would spend days and hours blessing our Creator. He made many drums, pouches, and neckwear. What he gave with love brought him peace.David will always be remembered as kind, considerate, and a protector of his family. He was the BEST father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. Known for his straightforward wisdom, he would say, "No BS about it. With me, you get what you get."David was preceded in death by his parents, David Scott Winn II and Leona Bell; his brother, Dean Winn; his sisters, Joan Winn and Bimby Jean Winn; and his nephew, Asa Williams.David is survived by a large, loving family including his children, David Winn IV, Brittney Lee, and Malia; and his three grandchildren, Poppy, Zayn, and Axl.
