David Wheeler ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care - Zionsville on Mar. 7, 2026.David Scott Wheeler, 52, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.Dave was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is survived by his wife, Jennifer Wheeler, parents, Richard and Barbara Wheeler, brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Margo Wheeler, nephews, Drew Wheeler, Nick Wheeler and Kyle Wheeler and his dog, Bazbeaux Wheeler. In addition to his immediate family, he will also be remembered for the special bond he had with Jennifer's family.Dave attended Lakota High School in Cincinnati, where he played baseball and football. He attended college at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and was part of the ATO fraternity. He developed life-long friendships in high school and college. He moved to Chicago, where he lived for 10 years and he met and married his wife, Jen, in 2006. After completing his masters degree in education at DePaul University, he began his career and passion as a high school US History teacher. He and Jen moved to Indianapolis in 2007 where he spent a few years teaching at a charter school but eventually started teaching at North Central High School in 2012, his dream school. He spent 14 years teaching US History and Advanced Placement US History at NC, where he was beloved by students for his enthusiastic teaching style and overall passion for history. In addition, he coached freshman football for 11 years, 9 years as the head coach. His love and dedication for teaching was felt by all. He taught classes until the very end, even when he wasn't feeling well.Dave was an avid Los Angeles Rams football fan since he was 7 years old and attended countless games throughout the years, the majority with his father Rick. He also loved music, movies, cooking, biking, walking the dogs and especially traveling with Jen. He was a dedicated husband to Jen for 20 years.Dave was larger than life, loyal to family and friends, a quick-witted sense of humor and a personality and smile that could light up any room.In the words of Bruce Springsteen, "For death is not the end, and I'll see you in my dreams."Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the chapel at Hoosier Village, 9787 Hoosier Village Dr. Zionsville, Indiana 46077. Enter Hoosier Village at the main entrance on Zionsville Road. A celebration of life will be held on the same day at the Half Liter Brewery, Bar & BBQ in the Broad Ripple neighborhood in Indianapolis from 4pm-7pm. Students welcome!In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to North Central High School to support students travel.
