February 20, 1953— February 26, 2026
Greenville, SC
David Wayne Rogers, 73, passed away at home on February 26, 2026, after a lengthy period of declining health. A lifelong devotee of roots, Americana, and bluegrass music, he brought warmth and sincerity to every circle he entered. Born on February 20, 1953, he was the son of the late C. Wayne and Jewel Cothran Rogers. David, his parents, and sisters were longtime members of Eastlan Baptist Church, where he was baptized. He graduated from Greenville High School and the University of South Carolina.
He maintained many warm friendships forged during his years at USC and through the Upstate music scene. David was firm and sincere in his beliefs and in his caring for others. He is survived by his sisters, Janet (Jan) Rogers Phillips of Mauldin and Kathryn Rogers Huggins and husband, Ken, of Simpsonville; one niece and four nephews; and two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to Greenville’s Triune Mercy Center or any organization that serves those who are struggling. Above all, David’s memory is best honored by loving one’s neighbor.
