David Ray Williams, affectionately known as Ray, Daddy, Pawpaw, and Poppy, passed away on March 11, 2026, at the age of 86 in Sweetwater. Born on November 4, 1939, in Alvard, Texas, he was the oldest of six children born to David Eugene and Leda Mae Williams.
David shared 65 years of marriage with his wife, Glenda. He worked as a pipefitter, traveling the world before retiring from the Palo Verde Nuclear Power Plant in Arizona. He will be remembered for his strong presence in the Sweetwater community and the cherished time he spent with family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his brothers Wayne Williams and Jackie Williams and wife Sandy of Marble Falls; sisters Pat Pinkerton and husband Jack, JoAnn Painter and late husband Norman, and Tina Beckwith and husband Guy; children Shane Williams and wife April of Odessa, and Kelly and husband Wayne Sorrells; grandchildren Misty Muncy and husband Cody and their children Garrett Muncy and wife Paeton and son Jetson, Levi Muncy, Ty Muncy, and Drew Muncy, and David Lee Williams and wife Tiffany and their daughter Meadow; brother and sister-in-law Dan and Marti Way of Tucson, Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Leta Mae Williams, sister-in-law Brenda Williams, Valerie Lawler of Phoenix, Arizona, brother-in-law Norman Painter, in-laws Allie G. Lawler and wife Martha Rachel, and granddaughter Joni Sorrells.
