David Mons, Jr.

Mr. David Carl Mons Jr., 82, of Millen passed away Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta, GA after a brief illness. He was born on November 19, 1943 in Millen, GA to Ruth Lane Mons and David Carl Mons Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Randy Lane Mons, grandson, Caleb Dwayne Wilkerson and son-in-law, Travis Dwayne Wilkerson.

David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Melba Mons; daughters, Angie Wilkerson, Jennifer Ann Spruce (Danny), and Alison Driggers (Dewayne); grandchildren, Mandy Wilkerson (Kyle Jones), Corey Wilkerson, and Caley Price (Chase); great-grandchildren, Aubrey Jones and Anna Jones; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He attended Jenkins County High School and was a water well driller. After high school, David went to work with his family’s well drilling business. He also had a passion for fast cars. He had several drag racing cars and could be found on the track winning trophies. Later, David developed a love of dirt track racing and could be found at Swainsboro racetrack every Friday night. David loved his family and friends. He never met a stranger and always met people with the biggest smile on his face. David always had a joke to tell. David grew up in the Long Branch Church of God where his parents and grandparents attended and he gave his life to the Lord several years ago. If you couldn’t find David working on a well, you would find him at home watching Swaggart’s on TV.

David married Melba Bishop of Twin City, GA on December 17, 1971 in Swainsboro, GA. From this union they had three beautiful children, Angie, Jennifer Ann, and Alison. David loved his family with his whole heart. He loved horses with his daughters, kart racing with his grandson, being at the softball fields with his granddaughters and loving on his great-granddaughters. David will be remembered for the great love he had for his family, friends, and that big contagious smile.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Long Branch Church of God with Reverends Stephen Hammond and Brett Peavy officiating. Interment will follow in the Long Branch Church of God cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Corey Wilkerson, Kyle Jones, Chase Price, Curtiss Kent, Thomas Lane, and Nick Beasley.

The family will be gathering at the Mons family home, 4095 Old Savannah Rd, Millen, GA 30442.
