Vermillion, SD

David Lowell Christopherson, 76, of Vermillion, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026.

Born on December 15, 1949, in Vermillion to Lowell and Maxine Christopherson, Dave graduated from Vermillion High School and attended General Beadle State College, where he studied history with a minor in physical education. It was in Madison that he met Marylou Krantz, a beautician, at a party. Their connection blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they married on April 13, 1972. In 2022, they joyfully renewed their vows, marking more than five decades together.

Dave and Marylou raised four children, Chad, Wade, Jay, and Becky. He took deep pride in his family, especially in watching his children compete in athletics at Vermillion High School. In later years, he found his greatest joy in attending his grandchildren’s activities and cheering them on from the sidelines. Known affectionately as “Guppy” and “Blondie,” Dave was remembered for his easygoing nature and quiet sense of humor.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting and shared that passion with his children. Time spent in a boat, in the deer woods, or simply enjoying nature was among his most cherished moments. Dave worked for more than twenty years at Terminal Grain Elevator before later serving at the City of Vermillion recycling center.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Christopherson, a World War II veteran, survivor of the Battle of the Bulge, and former prisoner of war; his mother, Maxine; and his sister, Patricia.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Marylou; his children Chad (Shannon), Wade (Stephanie), Jay (Jama), and Becky (Pat); his grandchildren Shelby and Cole Christopherson; Hunter, Hannah, and Hayden Christopherson; Reganne Christopherson; and Tad and Anna Christopherson; as well as one great-grandchild, Heath. He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of the outdoors, and the pride he took in the accomplishments of those he held dear.
