David Leroy Thomas

David Leroy Thomas, son of the late Leroy and Necoilial Ruth Thomas, was born on May 19, 1946, in Wilmington, Delaware, and passed away on March 3, 2026.

A proud graduate of Smyrna High School, class of 1964, David remained deeply connected to his alma mater and the William Henry Alumni throughout his life. He served his country with distinction, drafted into the U.S. Army in December 1968. He served in Korea and as an Infantry Sergeant in Vietnam until July 1970, earning an Honorable Discharge along with numerous commendations and awards. He continued his military commitment in the Army National Guard as a Staff Sergeant, retiring on May 19, 2006.

David earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Delaware State University in 1973. He enjoyed a long and successful career in accounting, beginning as a staff accountant with Columbia Gas Corporation from 1973 to 1988. He later served as a consultant for the DuPont Company on multiple projects before becoming a Licensed Public Accountant and founding Thomas’ Accounting Services, where he served as CEO and President. He was also a dedicated member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Deeply rooted in his faith, David attended Centennial Church from childhood, where he served as finance chair for 16 years, worship leader every third Sunday, and as a member of the Trustee committee. He sang in the church choir for 15 years and performed with the group Onyxx for 30 years, sharing his love of music in many venues. He was president of Tco Productions, an entertainment company known for its popular dinner theater events. David also gave back to the community as a substitute teacher for 20 years in the Smyrna, Appoquinimink, and Wilmington school districts, and through his service on the Finance Committee and Revitalization Committee for the Town of Smyrna.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Ann Thomas of Smyrna, Delaware; his children, David L. Thomas Jr. of Wilmington, Delaware, Cleavon L. Thomas and his wife Beth of Middletown, Delaware, and stepson Robert L. Adams of Dover, Delaware; granddaughter Daniele G. Thomas and grandson Nathaniel M. Thomas, both of Middletown; brother Lonnie M. Thomas and his wife Sylvia of Marietta, Georgia; sisters-in-law Marva Thomas of Dover, Anita Adams of Bear, and Carol Snow of Smyrna; brother-in-law Anthony West of Wilmington; niece Olivia Thomas and her husband Walter of Smyrna; nephews Lonnie Thomas Jr. of Marietta, Georgia, and Ronald L. Thomas Jr. and his wife Jeannette of Suwanee, Georgia; and a host of other relatives, friends, members of Centennial Church, tax clients, and Omega brothers.
