David Lee Haguewood

David Lee Haguewood, 86, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, strength, and deep, unwavering love for his family.

Born on March 24, 1939, to Letcher “Poppi” and Jennie “Nana” Haguewood, David was a man who understood the commitment to his country, his work, and, most of all, his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Norma and Patricia; and his sons, Steven Lee and Eric James.

David proudly served in the United States Navy and later in the Navy Reserves. Though he never saw battle, he carried great pride in his service and his time aboard the USS Bennington. His years in uniform were a meaningful chapter of his life and reflected the discipline and loyalty that defined him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Helayne Haguewood; his grandchildren, Daniel Scott Haguewood and Ashlee Renee Haguewood (Stewart); and the great-grandchildren who were the absolute light of his life: Zoe, Zane, and Zachary (born to Ashlee), and Hazel, Cruz, and Nash (born to Daniel). He also lovingly claimed Alec, Jessica, Brianna, AJ, Nova, and Kehlani as his own, embracing them fully as part of the family he built through love rather than blood.

David’s love for his grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, which he claimed as his own, was immeasurable. He was not simply a grandfather; he was a grandfather who stepped up as a father without hesitation. He showed up to the hard moments and the joyful ones alike. He provided. He protected. He sacrificed. His pride in his grandchildren was evident in the way he spoke about them and in the quiet ways he supported them. Being “Gramps, Grandpa, and Poppi” was one of his greatest honors.

Family was everything to David. He believed in taking care of your own, in working hard, and in being dependable. His strength was steady and constant, the kind you could rely on without question.

Professionally, David worked as a locksmith for many of the casinos in Las Vegas, where his precision and mechanical skills were highly respected. He had a natural talent for understanding how things worked. If something was broken, he was the one everyone called. A lifelong tinkerer, he could often be found in the garage working on a project, determined to make it run better than before.

He embraced life with determination and energy, participating in corporate challenges, triathlons, marathons, mountain biking, swimming, water skiing, and snow skiing. He was also active in car clubs and took great pride in his Studebaker and his 1941 Chevy truck, projects that reflected his patience, craftsmanship, and love of restoring what others might overlook. Above all, David will be remembered as a man who loved fiercely and quietly, who worked tirelessly, and who put his family first in every season of his life. The generations that follow him carry his resilience, his grit, and most importantly, his heart.
